Its well known that levels of Vitamin D affect the immune system. Humans get most of their Vitamin D from sun exposure, but with our modern life styles being more indoors and the use of sun screen, average levels for many are likely deficient. An increasing number children are spending too much time inside playing on their phone and some are being diagnosed with Rickets despite food fortification in some countries.
About 10-15 minutes of full body direct mid-day sun exposure is said to be similar to 10,000 I.U of D3. For dark skinned people the time is likely much longer. Also as one ages the dose gained from sun exposure decreases. For those over 50 years the production of D from sun levels decreases and continued to decrease significantly after that age.
Two researchers in Germany have collated a number of world-wide hospital trials of the effect of Vitamin D on Covid-19 deaths.
